Infosys Technologies Limited (NASDAQ: INFY) is an information technology (IT) company founded in Pune, India in 1981 by N. R. Narayana Murthy. Its headquaters are presently in Bangalore, Karnataka, it operates nine development centers in India and has over 30 offices in 20 other nations. In fiscal year 2006 annual revenues exceeded US $2.15 billion with a Market Capitalization of over US $22 billion and over 58,000 employees worldwide. Infosys is one of India's largest IT companies and its headquarters at Electronics City, Bangalore, is one of the largest IT campuses in the world.


History

Infosys was founded on July 2, 1981 by seven software professionals. In 1999 Infosys attained a SEI-CMM Level 5 ranking and became the first Indian company to be listed on NASDAQ. In 2001 it was rated "Best Employer in India" by Business Today, and in 2002 Business World named Infosys "India's Most Respected Company".

Recently, Infosys became the first company to ring the opening bell of the Nasdaq stock exchange from India. Bangalore-headquartered Infosys, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, was the first Indian company to be listed on the Nasdaq in 1999.

  • 1981 - founded in this year
  • 1987 - it set up its first international office in the US in Fremont, California, now its US headquarters
  • 1992 - became a public limited company in India
  • 1993 - ISO 9001 certification
  • 1996 - it set up its first office in Europe in Milton Keynes, UK.
  • 1997 - it opened office in Toronto, Canada.
  • 1997 - attained SEI-CMM Level 4
  • 1999 - listed on Nasdaq, crossed 100 million $ in revenue and attained SEI-CMM Level 5
  • 2000 - it opened offices in France and Hong Kong.
  • 2001 - it opened offices in United Arab Emirates and Argentina, crossed 400 million $ in revenue
  • 2002 - it opened new offices in Netherlands, Singapore and Switzerland. Infosys start Progeon, its BPO (business process outsourcing) subsidiary, crossed half a billion dollars in revenue
  • 2003 - it acquires "Expert Information Services" in Australia to form Infosys Technologies Australia.
  • 2003 - it wins a Top Brand with a Conscience award from the Medinge Group of Sweden.
  • 2004 - it set up Infosys Consulting Inc., U.S. consulting subsidiary in Texas, U.S., crossed 1 billion $ in revenue
  • 2005 - it gets inducted into the Global MAKE Hall of Fame.
  • 2006 - on April 14, Infosys announced a 1:1 bonus to its shareholders, the fifth bonus in 12 years.[2], crossed 2 billion $ in revenue
  • 2006 - on 7th of July, Infosys will celebrate its 25 years. The celebrations may commence after announcement of the quarterly results on 12th of July.
  • 2006 - on 30th of July, Infosys celebrated its 25 years from Mysore. Also it became the first Indian company to ring the NASDAQ Stock Market Opening Bell through a remote on the day.
  • 2006 - on 20th of August, N.R.Narayana Murthy retired from his position as the executive chairman
  • 2006 - on 29th of August, the BPO subsidiary Progeon was renamed as Infosys BPO Ltd.
